Snowy Days and Cosy Nights at Mayen
While we are in the middle of Winter with unseasonable high’s and near record low temperatures, once thing that’s for certain is the beauty it brings, with stunning skyscapes, beautiful snow scenes andthe perfect chance to escape and refresh for the year ahead.
There are many things to do during the Winter months here at Mayen without having to go too far and whether you love the outdoors or the cosy comforts of your cottage, there is always a chance to make new memories or get back in touch with your roots.
Cosy Picnics by the River
The Summerhouse overlooking the spectacular Deveron Valley is always popular with our guests in the Summer. However our cosy Bridge Lodge Fishing Hut is the ideal place to spend an afternoon with a book, journal or loved one during the Winter, nestled in undisturbed woodland with stunning views along the River Deveron. Rustically furnished with a kitchen, bathroom and cosy woodburning stove, why not spend an afternoon by the river enjoying one of our legendary picnics, your favourite book or get competitive with a few of your favourite games!
S’mores by the Fire
Our s’mores making kits are not only designed to satisfy your sweet tooth, it’s a great way to get your family outside together and try something new (which is really what holiday’s are all about). Leave your phones inside, gather round the fire pit, tell your funniest jokes or scariest story and make memories underneath the most beautiful starry night skies.
Snuggling up by the Stove
Each of our cottages comes with its own woodburning stove to keep you cosy during the winter months, and what’s better than snuggling up by the stove after a day of adventure (or doing nothing) with a board game, cheese board or your favourite film…I can’t really think of anything better!
Freestyle Sledging
Life is short and you’re never too old to relive your youth and slide down a hill! Mayen is home to many gentle slopes and hills that are perfect for freestyle sledging and skiing (which many of our guests over the festive season love doing!). Plant yourself in your cottage garden and make snow angels, build a snowman or simply enjoy the stunning scenery all around…it’s all about having fun and making memories for a lifetime!
Splash into 2025
Renew yourself and try something new with a cold water dip! With shallow parts of the Deveron and many beaches close to Mayen, cold water dipping (when safe to do so) is becoming more and more popular, so much so that there are in fact several community groups that meet every Sunday to brave the waters and refresh the week ahead. And if you don’t fancy the cold (and I can relate!), there are several cosy cafes and restaurants where you can grab a coffee and admire the coast from afar.
