Mountain Biking in Banffshire

Banffshire is in a league of its own with many forest trails for you to saddle up on your bike and get your pulses racing, enjoying marvellous scenery as you go.  We have put together a few great local routes whether you want to explore nature on two wheels or work on your trek times.  

  1. Bin Forest

This woodland route through the historic Bin Forest has several trails suitable for cyclists at any level and features many breathtaking vistas along the way.  At the heart of the route lies its namesake Bin Hill with an impressive lookout over miles of rolling Banffshire’s woodland and countryside.

2. Gartly Moor Forest

Featuring a whopping 24 trails, Gartly Moor sans a total of 37 kilometres and reaches a maximum peak of 419m.  The trail features conditions for cyclists of all proficiencies and takes the top spot when it comes to Aberdeenshires’ most popular cycling tracks.

3. Clashindarroch

Often regarded as Aberdeenshire’s largest forest, Clashindarroch is a very short drive from Huntly.  The woodland hosts 25 trails in total and spans a total area of 71km, with descents of up to 1530 meters.  Also known for its popular ski routes in the winter, the route is not for the faint hearted but ideal for adrenaline junkies looking for a challenge.

4. Moray Monster Trails

Situated near Fochabers, Moray Monster Trails has a route for absolutely anybody.  The freeride was initially built entirely by volunteers and features some pretty pulse racing inclines and some gentler woodland tracks.  For those looking for a challenge, then try the Fochabers Ring, which features a punishing ascent to a very special Pyramid monument at the summit.

5. DH Farm Bike Park and Cycle Routes

DH Farm offer two custom built downhill trails with a difference, with a sharp A1 decline or a more challenging twisting downhill circuit with several loops and jumps to quench your need for speed.  The park also offers bike and equipment hire and is located just 11 miles from our Estate.

6. Huntly Nordic & Outdoor Centre

Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre offer a wide variety of bikes and equipment for hire and is our first port of call for guides around the Bin Forrest and Clashindarroch routes.  The centre also specialises in tubing, skiing and various other outdoor activities, ideal for rewilding your family in the outdoors.
